Job Title: Catering Services Manager

Based: Olton, Solihull, B27 6PF

Salary: £25,840 per annum

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Closing Date: 17th February 2020

Hours: 35 hours a week with the ability to work flexibly across the week

Job Role:

The Trust is a charity with a proud history of supporting people in need for over 150 years. They offer access to opportunities, hope and a place to belong. They do this by providing safe, secure, affordable and well maintained housing, residential and extra care housing, delivering floating support to people in need over the age of 55 or to those with more complex multiple needs and education & support to young people from disadvantaged communities.

Job Role:

This is a time of exciting growth and development at the Trust, in fact their housing services have recently been in the national press, and while they’re proud of history they’re even more excited for the future.

They’re looking for someone to develop a strong catering offer, which reflects the ethos of the Charity, who is as passionate about delivering gross profit targets as they are about exceptional customer service, with an in-depth knowledge and experience of managing successful catering ventures. You will be pro-active and take a ‘hands-on’ approach to driving the Trust’s catering operations forward through this time of transformation.

They want you to review and enhance the catering offer at all of their Care and Housing sites, which is competitive in the marketplace and in line with the Trust’s core values.

Key responsibilities:

  • Proactively managing the catering team, being responsible for recruiting, supporting, training and people development to deliver an efficient, high quality service.
  • Being accountable for ensuring ongoing team communications, including building internal and external relationships
  • Being accountable for maintaining, ordering and controlling food stocks within budget.
  • Developing innovative menu planning, and design of food service within specified budgets ensuring high standard of food presentation and portion/quality control.
  • Being accountable for COSHH, Food Safety, H&S, legal regulations, environmental policies and duty of care to customer and colleagues.
  • Having a can do attitude to help co-ordinate and advise catering teams during the transformation
  • Being a hands on chef/cook with the ability to lead by example through operational excellence and the delivery of a high standard of food

Key things about you:

  • Have experience of working in a catering environment, specifically within a management role
  • Be a driven, self-starter with a passion for all things food
  • Have proven leadership and excellent people management skills
  • City & Guilds 7061 or NVQ Level 2 in Catering for the Hospitality Industry
  • Be flexibility and ability to work on own initiative
  • Hold a history of working with large groups of diverse clients ideally those with multiple dietary requirements and needs
  • Have a solid knowledge of food, food hygiene (including hazard analysis and critical control points) and allergen awareness
  • Have experience of menu planning around allergens
  • Be a great cook/chef with the ability to share this skill with others and develop the teams catering skills
  • Have strong organisational and time management skills
  • Have an excellent level of IT skill, being conversant with Microsoft office packages
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work as part of a team
  • Complete an enhanced DBS and willingness to undertake safeguarding, fire training and first aid certificate
