Job Title: Front-end Designer

Location: Chelmsford

Remuneration: Up to £50,000 DOE

Job Type: Full Time

This is an exceptional opportunity for a hands-on, talented designer who wants to lead the design and front-end process for an emerging insurance provider. The successful applicant will be able to design and build market leading digital user interfaces and experiences for a wide range of insurance product types, brands, producing high quality assets, website designs, production frontend code and marketing collateral.

The Role:

Design and develop digital assets such as wireframes, screen designs, landing pages, full green field website designs and builds, email templates, as well as, generating assets for the marketing department. Working closely with the IT Manager, Marketing Manager and other stakeholders, you will design and build website designs for new and existing products and brands across multiple different platforms and devices. You will be responsible for ensuring brand consistency for each of our brands and partner brands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Taking total ownership of design, user interface and user experience. Able to suggest and implement improvements to existing designs
  • Creating stunning designs and prototypes that can be viewed by our development team or to demonstrate concepts to stakeholders
  • Develop valid, semantic, responsive websites that work across different devices and browsers
  • Develop, test and manage HTML Email templates for the marketing department that work across the most popular email clients

Required Skills:

Design:

  • Ability to create design proposals using sketches, wireframes and screen designs
  • Able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the UX/UI design principles
  • Eager to provide impeccable visual designs with a keen eye for design and trends
  • Experienced with Sketch or Figma or XD and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experienced with producing user-centered designs, balancing usability and business requirements
  • Updating existing designs to incorporate stakeholder feedback
  • Designing for desktop, tablet and mobile devices (i.e. responsive web design)
  • Designing HTML Email templates
  • A creative design and problem-solving mindset

Front-end Development:

  • Developing web-based user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Writing modular, reusable, scalable code using pre-processors such as Sass
  • Experienced with Jekyll and the Liquid template language
  • Familiarity with version control, Git, and collaborative software development best practices
  • Working with dependency management tools such as Yarn, npm
  • Streamlining and automating front-end builds using Gulp.js or similar
  • Developing websites using grid frameworks such as Bootstrap and CSS Grid
  • Experienced with cross-browser and cross-device testing
  • Must be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of vanilla JavaScript
  • Experience with JavaScript libraries/frameworks such as jQuery and Vue.js
  • Developing HTML Email templates and testing them via tools such as Email on Acid and Putsmail

General:

  • Comfortable working with and communicating via MS Outlook and MS Teams for daily team calls
  • Self-motivated, with impeccable planning and time-management skills
  • Ability to self-test work for accuracy and quality
