Job Title: General Manager

Location: Hastings, East Sussex

Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 p.a.

Job type: Full Time, Perm

Closing Date: 10th February, 2020

Working Hours: Working on a rota’d basis 5/7 days, which includes regular weekends and bank holidays

The company operates three attractions in Hastings that are steeped in history dating back to 1066, including a popular seafront aquarium based in the historic Old Town of Hastings which transports visitors on an enchanting journey from the shorelines of Hastings to the tropical waters of the deep blue ocean.

About the Role:

They are looking for a General Manager with excellent marketing knowledge able to deliver on the commercial profitability of their Hastings located attractions .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to boost sales and profits for the attraction and plan future prospects of the attraction
  • To work in partnership with Head office to define and articulate the attraction’s vision and to develop strategies for achieving that vision
  • To plan and organise site operations for future business, detailing strategies by anticipating operational / customer needs and developing tactical initiatives accordingly
  • To deliver continuous improvement across the business and share best practice within the group
  • Network with other potential clients and competitors in the market and get business tactics and ideas from them
  • To continually develop the marketing strategy and to use the marketing function to build long term stability for the business
  • Set business goals and targets for direct reports and ensure they are providing productive results for the attraction
  • To set an operational philosophy that is performance driven, maintains a high level of employee engagement and meets the highest health and safety and ethical standards
  • Oversee the operations of the attraction and manage its compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • To identify, motivate, develop and retain staff with the potential to fill key leadership positions in the company in the future
  • To ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including Zoo Licence and positively promote high standards of animal welfare
  • To ensure that the site is adequately protected and secure, repairs are carried out on a timely and safe basis and the attraction is maintained to the highest standard and safety
  • To oversee staff in developing annual budgets that support operating plans and submits budgets for head office approval
  • Prudently manages the attractions resources within budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
  • Produce and review activity reports, financial statements and forecast to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions
  • To monitor key performance indicators on a daily, weekly, monthly basis and strive for continuous improvement in financial performance
  • To oversee site budget/forecasts and take correction action where required
  • To manage resources, be aware of costs and to look for better value for money
  • To ensure safety and security of the business assets including cash
  • To be part of the Management team, covering duty management responsibilities as required
  • To provide leadership by communicating well, maintaining good business relationships and representing the overall attraction in a positive light

Key Requirements:

  • Degree in a relevant subject such as marketing, general business management
  • Able to work effectively under own supervision
  • Demonstrate good communication skills
  • Must take a hands on approach to work
  • Capable of working efficiently under pressure
  • A can do attitude working with pace and vigour
  • Be enthusiastic, a team player and value working in these unique visitor attractions
  • Strong personal integrity with an innate desire to work in an ethical manner
  • Applicants must hold a full, manual valid UK driving licence
