Job Title: Landlord Liaison Officer

Location: Harlow

Salary: £29,028 to £30,208 per annum

Job type: Full time, two-year fixed term contract

We are seeking to recruit a Landlord Liaison Officer, with excellent negotiation skills, to be part of the Housing Options & Advice Team to provide private rented housing options including placements in temporary accommodation for people in housing need. The Housing Options & Advice Team assists those in housing need and those at risk of homelessness to access a range of accommodation to create long-term sustainable tenancies.

We are looking for a candidate with experience in either tenancy sustainment or property lettings with the ability to work with private landlords and lettings agencies to sustain existing landlord relationships. A flair for solving tenancy problems from a landlord’s perspective and an understanding of the private rented sector market. You will be supporting landlords with housing applicants to resolve issues and agree sustainable solutions for their tenancies. You will be together with officers within the team in the prevention of homelessness.

The successful applicant will be required to work out of normal office hours on occasions and carry out home visits and property inspections.

Job purpose:

The Council is committed to providing its customers with the highest level of customer care in the delivery of a customer focused, high quality Housing Service. The main purpose of the job role is to enhance positive and pro-active relationships with existing and prospective private landlords and letting agents in order to maintain and increase supply of private rented housing available to the Council. The postholder will be required to develop new initiatives and partnerships to promote and increase the supply of properties and housing options available. The post holder will also take the lead in coordinating access to private rented sector properties, to ensure they are utilised by the Council as accommodation for homeless households. Key objectives will be to make best use of available properties and to ensure lengths of stay in emergency accommodation such as B&B, are minimised.

  • To enhance positive and pro-active relationships with existing and prospective private landlord partners and letting agents in order to maintain and increase the supply of private rented housing available to the Council.
  • To be responsible for developing new initiatives and partnerships to promote and increase the supply of properties and options available to assist those applicants that are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • To coordinate and further develop the Councils private rented sector scheme and alternative private rented sector housing solutions.
  • To be responsible for administering the Councils private rented sector offerings and assist in administering budgets and cost recovery.
  • To be responsible for coordinating and administering the allocation of temporary accommodation supplied by both internal and external providers to the Council for homeless households, making sure it is effectively used and lengths of stay in Bed & Breakfast are minimised.

The Candidate:

Qualified to G.C.S.E English & Maths grades A-C or minimum level 4 or equivalent and able to demonstrate good literacy, numeracy and verbal communication. Experience in a similar role/environment preferably within the private rented sector or social housing. Experience of developing good relationships between landlords and tenants.
