Job Title: Registered Mental Health Nurse (Autism Support)

Location: London

Salary: £32,000 per year

Job type: Full-time – Permanent. Monday – Friday, 8 hours – Day Shifts. Additional overtime hours are also available.

We have a new and exciting opportunity that has opened up for a Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our growing teams in the Wembley, Greater London area.

Salisbury Support 4 Autism provides high quality support and care to people on the Autism Spectrum. This ranges across the spectrum from high functioning individuals who require minimal support and those who demonstrate high levels of behaviour that challenges. We are passionate in supporting them to live as independently as possible through a Person-Centred approach by following a PBS and Active support Framework. We are continually promoting respect, dignity, choice in all aspects of life, community presence and participation, the right to social relationships and supporting in skill acquisition.

The Role:

The post holder will provide high quality support and care to people on the Autism Spectrum, who demonstrate high levels of Challenging Behaviour, and assist them to live as independently as possible through a person-Centred approach by constantly promoting respect and dignity, choice in all aspects of life, community presence and participation, the right to social relationships and building competencies.
This role is within the Behaviour Department and will be aimed at providing evidence-based interventions for adults with Autism and complex needs. These complex needs include paranoid schizophrenia, bi-polar affective disorder, psychosis, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and OCD.

Main Duties:

  • Supporting our staff development by providing training in physical needs such as diabetes, epilepsy, medication administration etc.
  • Supporting staff in the completion of appropriate risk assessments in the above areas
  • Leading in companywide initiatives to support staff and service users in their understanding of healthy living, sexual rights, promoting a safe environment for service users to discuss their sexuality and needs, understanding of relationships and consent etc.
  • Be a company CPI/MAPA trainer
  • Completing capacity assessments for service users when required
  • Provide evidence-based individual therapy, such as CBT for depression and anxiety
  • To regard each client and case as confidential and only share information when there is either a moral or legal precedent to do so

Mental Health Nurse – You:

  • The ability to see the world through the eyes of the individual Service Users and use this perspective to enable and support them to function as independently as possible in a community of their choosing.
  • Has the ability to convey information clearly, accurately, and convincingly through speech and writing. Must be able to demonstrate listening skills, tact, and diplomacy and build rapport.
  • Contribute actively to a working environment in which colleagues work co-operatively with each other, accepting collective responsibility
  • Demonstrate awareness of cultural and community diversity and sensitivity to the needs and feelings of other people
  • Receptive to the need for change and adaptable to changing work demands and conditions.

Experience Required:

  • Supporting adults with autism and learning disability: 5 years (required)
  • Creating function based positive behaviour support plans: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) (required)
  • Psychology degree or coaching qualification in PBS (required)

Position Requirements:

  • Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) to work as a mental health nurse in the UK
  • 5+ years’ experience in supporting adults with autism and learning disability in both the community and inpatient services
  • Experience in completing capacity assessments
  • CBT experience in supporting service users with autism and complex needs
  • Proficient in using Microsoft power-point, excel and word
  • Understanding of Autism and Positive Behaviour Support
  • Completing mandatory training
