Job Title: Residential Care Officer

Location: Liverpool

Salary: £10.00 to £11.50 per hour dependent on experience

Quality Protects Children Ltd, has been working for over 20 years within the North West, currently specialising in providing a range of services to support young people aged 10 – 18 who may present with complex needs.

The role:

To work as directed in various Children’s Homes throughout the organisation.

The Candidate:

  • Experience of direct work with young people in care, education, health or youth work is essential.
  • We welcome candidates with the Diploma Level 3/4 Children and Young People’s Workforce or recognised professional qualification in therapeutic work with young people and can offer this qualification for unqualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • To provide caring and supportive behavioural management services to children and young people accommodated in the various Children’s Homes.
  • To practice in accordance with The Children’s Home Quality Standards & Regulations 2015, relevant Department of Health Guidance, Home Office Regulations and the Company Policies and Procedures.

Day to Day:

  • To contribute to the day-to-day functioning of the Children’s Home in order to meet the individual and collective needs of the children and young people using this resource.
  • To develop and maintain good joint working partnerships with young people.
  • To ensure that the services offered to young people within the Home are effectively provided and reflect the decisions in child care plans, which are consistent with Department of Health, Home Office and the Company’s policies and procedures. This should be supported by accurate and up-to-date record keeping.
  • To participate in the domestic and personal care tasks of the Home in a way which promotes the well being and development of the young people.
  • To work proactively to furnish children and young people with emotional, social and practical skills within a behavioural management context in order to prepare them for the world of education and work.
  • To maintain effective communication systems, including handovers and log books. To attend and contribute to staff meetings, staff development sessions and child care reviews and other meetings, where appropriate.
  • To actively take part in the implementation, promotion and development of all relevant Company policies and procedures.
  • To take part in implementing action plans to ensure the company’s positive action targets are met and anti-discriminatory practices are adhered to and developed.
  • To support young people in school / alternative education programme and ensure that they take full advantage of the opportunities available to them through education.
  • To assist young people with any homework or programmes of study identified as necessary by teaching staff.
  • To promote and support young people and assist them to achieve GNVQ/NVQ/GCSE examinations.
  • To provide and promote access to career guidance, where appropriate.
  • To work as a member of a team and contribute to team development.
  • To administer medication to young people in line with company policy and procedures and Department of Health Guidance.
  • To undertake any other duties, as directed from time to time, to meet the exigencies of the service.

Extra Info:

Post holders will be required to work a minimum of 35 hours per week 12-hour shifts, including waking nights and weekends on a rota basis.
