Job Description:

The Company is the UK’s leading waste-to-energy biodiesel producer with operations in Scotland and North West England and has always been privately owned. Their main plant, near Motherwell in Scotland, started production in 2005. Following significant investment to facilitate growth and development, a number of facilities are being built in the Stanlow area. They specialise in the production and supply of high grade, sustainable diesel made from waste fats and oils deliberately excluding any raw materials that could also be used for food or feed.

They are currently looking to recruit for a Senior Operator who will be responsible for all operations within the plant when on shift. Operating and first line maintenance of plant. Monitoring of plant equipment and responding accordingly to any faults. Oversee the work of the operators.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Operational Activities

  • Ensure maximum plant utilisation by appropriate prioritising and allocation of tasks.
  • Monitor computerised plant controls and responding accordingly to faults.
  • Ensure quality checks are carried out accurately and all required data is recorded as required.
  • Use specified running methods to ensure the plant is operated as specified. Highlight deviations from standard.
  • Liaise closely with other plant personnel to report on progress, ensure all outstanding issues are addressed and highlight potential issues.
  • Carry out Preventative Maintenance on plant equipment as required in a timely manner.
  • Advise, coach and train operators where required.
  • Maintain an awareness of operator performance and provide effective feedback to operators and Production Manager/ Plant Manager.
  • Actively promote a team-working environment.
  • Ensure all equipment is kept in good condition and stored correctly.
  • Loading and unloading of material into the tank farm as required.
  • Ensure departmental housekeeping is of a high standard.
  • Occasional Lab analysis work involving tests of on-site materials to ensure effective process control and measurement

Health and Safety

  • Ensure a thorough knowledge of your Health & Safety responsibilities.
  • Always wear Personal Protective Equipment as required. Take responsibility for your own PPE ensuring appropriate storage and care.
  • Always strive to work in a manner safe to yourself and others and report any hazards immediately.
  • Ensure all staff and visitors operates in compliance with Safety regulations
  • Full responsibility for the safety of team members
  • Actively participate in addressing Safety, Health and Environmental issues affecting the production areas, ensuring the relevant S, H&E checks are carried out.
  • Full knowledge of the Plant Emergency Procedures and associated responses are required

Qualifications / Knowledge & Experience

Qualifications

  • An HND qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or science discipline

Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience working in a process plant is preferred; with a FMCG, Process, Chemical background
  • Previous experience of working at operator level would be advantageous
  • Previous supervisory or team management experience would be useful; knowledge of shift working/operation would be desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and compliance, i.e. IPCC, EA, HSE would be useful
