Job Title: Sports Development Officer

Location: London

Salary: £19,014 to £20,247 dependant on experience

Job Type: Full Time, Term Time Only

The College is a highly successful and popular Catholic sixth form located on three sites in south east London. They specialise in meeting the needs of sixth form students, and have an established track record of excellent examinations success. Their Financial Status is Outstanding and in 2017 they were graded as a good college by Ofsted.

Purpose of the Role:

To deliver an effective Active Colleges Programme, focussed on increasing and sustaining participation in sport, physical activity and a healthier lifestyle.

Responsibilities:

  • Access and coordinate the implementation of NGB participation programmes/offers for FE students
  • Be the key point of entry into the college for community sport partners, connecting them with other key college staff where appropriate
  • Build and sustain effective partnerships with NGBs, the local county sports partnership and other community sports providers
  • Provide additional and regular sports opportunities within the college for all students i.e. sport clubs and sports activities
  • Create and maintain effective and active links with sports clubs in the community – widening the offer to all students
  • Connect to existing opportunities already available in the local area and signpost students to these
  • Facilitate coaching and/or delivery of sports sessions and activities, including overseeing the multi gym on each site
  • Be an advocate/ champion for sports development within the college
  • Access funding streams for sustainability -in the short term and potentially in the longer term
  • Promote positive student behaviour which respects the needs of all users
  • Take part in professional development activities including appraisal
  • Promote equal opportunities for students and staff
  • Undertake other tasks as required by the Principal, after due consultation

The ideal Candidate will have/ be:

  • An understanding of, and support for, the Catholic ethos of the College
  • Experience of delivering sports sessions in an education environment
  • Experience of coaching in a variety of sports
  • Possess a minimum of a Level 4 qualification in sports science / sports coaching / sports development
  • Experience of project management in sports development
  • Experience of building working relationships with external partners and organisations
  • Able to work effectively as a team leader / member
  • Sound planning, administration and organisational skills
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Able to work flexibly
  • Considerable patience and humor, especially when under pressure
  • Evidence of effective use of ICT / ILT in all aspects of work
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion
  • Your previous work / life history provides evidence that you are safe to work with children and vulnerable adults
  • The ability to communicate well with young people and to have an understanding of some of the challenges they face
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others and establish effective working relationships
  • An awareness of the need for personal development, both as a member of a team and as an individual; a willingness to participate in INSET and appraisal
  • Possess National Governing Body Coaching Certificates (desirable)
