Location: Newham, London

Job type: Full time, Permanent

Closing Date: 23:59 on the 3rd January 2021

About them:

The Council is committed to putting people at the heart of everything they do. The Mayor and Members have agreed an ambitious plan to make Newham a pioneering place for tackling racism, inequalities and disproportionality (TRID). As part of this ground-breaking work, they have four projects in place that will deliver change within the council, across local communities and for their partners.

Tackling all forms of discrimination, inequality and disproportionality is at the top of their agenda, as they firmly believe a genuine cultural transformation is needed. Through their TRID programme, a number of pledges have been developed to set out their commitments for the council as an employer, as a beacon of social change, as the best place for children and young people, and as a deliverer & commissioner of services. The pledges set out are fundamental to how they must work now and in the future, to achieve their commitments to a fairer and more inclusive Newham for all the council’s staff and residents.

The Role:

As the TRID Programme Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery and development of the TRID Programme of projects, delivering on the key objectives established by the Mayor and Members. Building strategic relationships with their senior leadership team, the Mayor, Members and other key stakeholders, you will help them take this crucial work forward and providing strategic direction and leadership for the programme.

Leading the programme team, you will be utilising your subject matter experience and interpersonal skills to drive system wide changes, whilst encouraging innovation and supporting change. As well as motivate colleagues to deliver against the programme plan, you will also work with local residents to diagnose issues, seek solutions with partners to align their thinking and ensure Newham is known as a place that celebrates diversity, providing opportunities based on merit with a firm stance against all forms of prejudice.

Most importantly, you will engage with people who have lived experience of racism, inequality and disproportionality through working groups, interviews and research to ensure their approach is meaningful. Collaborating with the Inclusion & Diversity Lead you will then look to ensure that continuity of this work can be built in the Inclusion & Diversity team and wider systems and processes.

About you:

To deliver this work, they are seeking someone who has experience of delivering complex projects/programmes and is passionate about tackling racism, inequality and disproportionality, in line with their corporate i-HEART values.

Displaying proven experience within cross-functional teams, you will be expected to co-ordinate internal capability and external partnerships for the business to deliver effective change and realisation of projected benefits.

Overseeing all aspects of an ongoing programme, from its development to implementing program activities, you will ensure the programme is progressed to a consistently high standard, within budget, ensuring objectives are met on time.

With demonstrable success in strategy development, project planning and delivery, you will have knowledge of best practice in relation to reaching, engaging and portraying those from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.

However, these are not the only skills they are looking for. To be shortlisted for this role you must clearly evidence the following experience within your application.

  • Delivering large, complex, multi-stakeholder programmes using proven programme management techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of innovative equality and diversity interventions
  • Collaborating with senior figures to persuade and influence, shape and deliver programmes
