Job Title: BID Area Town Ranger

Location: Acton

Salary: £26,000 per annum

Job type: Full time/Part time Fixed terms contracts available

The Role:

The company is looking for a new team member to help make a positive difference in the Acton Business Improvement District (BID) area. They want Acton to be the best place it can be for its businesses, residents and visitors. You will be a key link between the businesses, community and the BID Company in making the area better.

This will involve:

  • Getting to know the business community, the area and everything Acton has to offer
  • Liaising and communicating with local businesses in order to provide support
  • Information and advice on services/facilities available with the aim of improving their local environment and enhancing their ability to operate effectively and successfully
  • Identifying reporting and preventing environmental and safety/security issues
  • Regular liaison with the Council and other services

The post holder will provide a visible and reassuring presence to the businesses within the BID area.

The role will require a positive, flexible, empathetic and customer-oriented attitude. The successful candidate will need to support the company’s image by talking about it in a positive light, promoting improvements to working practices which are beneficial to the business strategy, adopting a quality approach to all aspects of work encouraging others to achieve high standards.

Job Duties:

Community Development:

  • To act as an ambassador for the BID making regular visits and be the eyes and ears of the area
  • To inform businesses on BID initiatives and projects to encourage levy payers to take part
  • To develop and maintain relationships with businesses and promote the sharing of information, including local news and activities
  • To assist and support the BID Management Team with activities such as festivals, meetings, events, crime reduction initiatives and markets
  • To ensuring that any vandalism, graffiti, flyposting or fly tipping is photographed and dealt with immediately or reported to the relevant departments within the Council for removal
  • To monitor the street environment and ensure that paving and street furniture is reported if defective to the relevant departments in the council
  • To monitor and log any businesses that close down or open, keeping an up to date audit log
  • Liaise with regulatory services to support new business compliance and raise standards within the BID area; (e.g. liaise with food stores, business seminars for H&S)
  • To patrol in and around the designated BID area
  • To provide crime prevention advice to businesses and make businesses feel safe
  • To be alert to and where possible, deter anti-social behaviour in the area, reporting cases where necessary to the correct crime prevention agencies
  • To identify beggars in the area and inform the Police and relevant agencies
  • To identify rough sleepers and inform relevant agencies or charities
  • To identify solutions to reduce anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity and engage with the relevant stakeholders

Qualification:

  • Evidence of continued personal development
  • Security related qualification (helpful)

Experience:

  • Experience of building relationships with key stakeholders and within the community
  • Experience of handling challenging situations
  • Demonstrable experience of working on multiple projects and activities, maintaining high levels of good customer service and client relationships when under pressure
  • Demonstrable experience of monitoring and evaluating progress of projects and services
  • Involvement with Crisis management planning

Knowledge:

  • Good working knowledge of the local area (desirable)
  • An understanding of Business Improvement Districts and their operation
  • To have an understanding of the diversity and culture within the local area
  • Understanding of Health & Safety Legislation

Personal Aptitude and Skills:

  • Confident in handling sensitive situations on an individual or group basis, with the ability to remain calm and professional at all times
  • An efficient proactive team member
  • Able to inspire and attract business member involvement in the BID and the services and projects the BID offers
  • Willingness to undertake other tasks to support the BID Management Team
  • Ability to provide physical assistance when required i.e. Assisting in rubbish clearance/ removal
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • The ability to display tact, diplomacy with good negotiation and persuasion skills as required
  • To be computer literate and be able to use technology required for this role
