Argent Energy is the UK’s leading waste-to-energy biodiesel producer with operations in Scotland and North West England and has always been privately owned. Our main plant, near Motherwell in Scotland, started production in 2005.

Following significant investment to facilitate growth and development, a number of facilities have been built in the Stanlow area. We specialise in the production and supply of high grade, sustainable diesel made from waste fats and oils deliberately excluding any raw materials that could also be used for food or feed.

Main Purpose:

Working as a member of the BDR Operations Department and as a member of a shift team. The Process Operator is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient and environmentally compliant operation. Monitoring of plant equipment and conditions and responding accordingly to any trends or faults.

They achieve this by:

  • Controlling the receipt, handling, storage and delivery of feedstock products
  • Supporting the Shift Team Leader and Senior Operator, in the safe and effective operation of the BDR
  • Lab analysis work involving tests of on-site materials
  • Operation of support equipment and facilities associated with the BDR facility, effluent treatment and utilities

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Understanding of plant priorities and operational needs
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as required by Management
  • Liaise with the operational teams in BDR to ensure safe and smooth operation of the overall site
  • Contribute to the decision making process regarding level of spares / equipment
  • Loading and unloading of material into the tank farm as required
  • Lab Analysis as required to ensure effective process control and measurement
  • Monitoring computerised plant controls and responding accordingly to faults
  • Ensure all work undertaken is done so in accordance with the company policies and in a safe manner
  • In all cases work closely with Senior Operators/Team Leaders to report on progress and highlight potential issues
  • As part of a team and under the leadership of the shift team leader or senior operator, start, shut down, operate, adjust and clean equipment
  • Carry out Preventative Maintenance on plant equipment as required in a timely manner
  • Ensure any tools, PPE or other equipment is stored correctly after use
  • Ensure all equipment is kept in good condition and areas kept clean and tidy. Ensure departmental housekeeping is of a high standard
  • Prioritise the allocation of tasks ensure maximum plant utilisation and operation of the site

The Candidate:

  • An HND qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or science discipline is desirable
  • H&S qualification such as IOSH/NEBOSH is desirable
  • Previous experience working in BDR process plant is preferable
  • Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and compliance, i.e. IPCC, EA, HSE would be useful
  • Knowledge of shift working/operation would be desirable
