How many hats can you wear in one day?

We are looking for people to join our residential team within Walsall where we currently operate three Childrens homes. These have been rated by ofsted as “Outstanding and good” and we will be shortly opening new homes in 2022 expanding the residential footprint.

Our work is varied where no two days are the same, for example tonight involves:

  • helping to cook the tea
  • helping with homework
  • playing football in the garden

But tomorrow may bring:

  • attendance at meetings

addressing challenging behaviour

The Role

You will be responsible for the direct care of children living in the home and offer high levels of engagement for and with children to be ambitious, helping them to achieve positive outcomes.

We provide residential care for looked after children at three children’s homes located within Walsall. Our focus is directed towards a child centred approach where we actively promote children’s rights. We deliver our services in a safe personalised small group where the care is aimed at supporting children’s welfare.

The ideal candidate will hold a level three qualification in children’s social care or be willing to work towards this award.

We have various posts available including full and part time vacancies:

Full time x 1 (37 hours per week): £23,541 – £27,741, full-time hours
Part time x 2 (22 hours per week): £13,997.35 to £16,494.64, pro rata to hours
Part time x 1 (21 hours per week): £13,361.10 to £15,744.89, pro rata to hours

Important Information

Our homes can accommodate children up to 18 years of age. Due to the nature of this post, the DFE minimum standard states that an employee must be four years older than the oldest resident therefore applicants must be 22 years of age or older.

These posts are mainly evenings, weekends and includes sleep in shifts where you will be paid a 5% enhancement for unsocial hours and also a sleep in payment. Salary is pro-rata to hours worked.

Completion of an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is a requirement for working with children and young people.

Note: Applicants appointed to posts that require an enhanced DBS clearance must declare any periods of time that they have lived, studied or worked abroad and be prepared to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Certificate (OCRC) or a Statement of Good Conduct (SOGC) relating to anytime they were overseas.

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers. The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
