Job Title: Children’s Residential Support Worker

Location: Worcester

Salary: £16,048.50 to £18,681.00 p/a plus 30 days paid annual leave

Hours: Full Time, Permanent

This School in Herefordshire provides individualised care and education programmes for children and young people aged 11 to 19 years, with severe learning disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour.

The Role:

  • To help maximise the potential capabilities of all young people at the school – physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially
  • To provide choice wherever possible and enable young people to make their own decisions as appropriate
  • To work with and follow professional advice and known alternative communication strategies to enable all young people to have ‘a voice’
  • To work within bespoke and individualised packages of care to provide the best possible outcomes for young people
  • To ensure a high standard of personal care for each young person, including matters of physical well-being and personal hygiene
  • To support young people out in the community, on activities and holidays and be a company vehicle driver as requested and once trained
  • To fully engage with pupils and take part in activities and leisure pursuits, including physical activities such as sports
  • Be jointly responsible for the safeguarding of children in care

The Candidate – Essentials:

  • The ability to work under pressure in challenging circumstances
  • The ability to work on one’s own initiative and as part of a committed team
  • Knowledge and understanding of what the role involves and a clear appreciation of its challenges and its rewards
  • An ability to identify and undertake any training necessary to develop within the role
  • Good sense of humour
  • Calm and even tempered
  • Willingness to work shifts including evenings and weekends
  • To have a commitment to and an understanding of the care of those with severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviours
  • A natural respect for the dignity and individuality of residents
  • Show commitment to equality of opportunity at all times and have due respect for the diverse make up of colleagues and those in your care
  • A good standard of written and verbal communication
  • Basic ICT skills

The Candidate – Desirables:

  • A current First Aid Certificate
  • A current Food Hygiene Certificate
  • NVQ2 or 3 in Children and Young people
  • Previous experience within a residential care setting
  • Experience of severe learning difficulties and/or challenging behaviour
  • Experience in the personal care and hygiene of another person
  • A valid current driving licence or ability to travel as this is a rural location
